Better Looking Lips
Once upon a time, every little girl recognized her
inner diva and decided to try on mommy’s tube of
fire engine red
lip gloss.
This is an endearing scenario, complete with the
string of pearls and the too-big high heeled pumps.
Of course, the defining point of the entire picture
is little Jane or Mary slicking on mommy’s lip stuff
in an attempt to look grown up and oh so pretty. The
memory may leave a smile on your lips, but the
notion that one might end up applying lip gloss in
the exact same way at your age – wobbly, haphazardly
and without a care in the world – will probably end
up having your
beauty ancestors turn ‘round in their
graves.
Cut to the present. Lip glosses are more fun than
the products of old, but the basics of lip
beautification are still the same. To start,
create a base for your lips by slicking on some
colorless lip balm. The idea is to add extra
moisture to your lips and a foundation your lip
gloss will stick to. Create a protective layer
between gloss and kisser with a thorough coating of
good ‘ole lip balm.
Next, dip your lip wand into the tube and wipe the
excess on the sides of the tube to lessen the amount
of product on your lips. Just like cooking, it is
always easier to add more product but it
entails a lot more effort than removing it and
starting over (not to mention quite wasteful).
For best application,
smile at the mirror and part your teeth – and hold
it! This ensures that your lips are stretched and no
product will get on your teeth. Hold that position
until you finish applying your gloss. Start from the
center and work your way out, never the other way
around. Tilt your head up to ensure that you get to
line it right inside the perimeter of your lips.
For extra head-turning oomph, dot the center of your
lower lip with your most dazzlingly shimmery gloss –
this will reflect on light better and make your lips
a lot fuller.
